Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks’ quarterback Taylor Elgersma has been named the U Sports offensive player of the week.
The six-foot-six, 220-pound passer from London, Ont. completed 20-of-22 pass attempts for 360 yards and three touchdowns in his team’s 69-0 victory over the Waterloo Warriors. He also rushed for three touchdowns to help his team advance to the OUA semifinals where they will meet the Windsor Lancers this weekend.
The other nominees for the award were St. FX running back Malcolm Bussey (AUS), Sherbrooke receiver Marc-André Shaw (RSEQ), and Saskatchewan running back Ryker Frank (CW)
Windsor Lancers’ defensive lineman Muftah Ageli was named the U Sports defensive player of the week after he made seven tackles, two tackles for loss, 0.5 sacks, and one fumble recovery in his team’s 14-11 win over the Carleton Ravens. The six-foot-two, 320-pound defender has made 37 tackles, 7.5 tackles for loss, 5.5 sacks, one interception, and one fumble recovery for the Lancers this season.
The other nominees for the award were Mount Allison linebacker Daniel Bell (AUS), Concordia defensive back Loïk Gagné (RSEQ), and Saskatchewan defensive back Ethan Laing (CW).
Sherbrooke kicker Louis Tardif was named the U Sports special teams player of the week after he made all five of his field goal attempts with a long of 41 yards this past weekend. The Quebec City native also made all three of his convert attempts to help launch the Vert et Or to the RSEQ semifinals where they will meet the Montreal Carabins.
The other nominees for the award were St. FX kicker Ben Hadley (AUS), Windsor kicker Brady Lidster (OUA), and Calgary kicker Vince Triumbari (CW).
