The Seattle Seahawks have signed Canadian defensive back Jonathan Sutherland to the practice roster.
The five-foot-eleven, 202-pound defender signed with the team after going unselected in the 2023 NFL Draft. He was waived at the end of training camp with an injury designation and remained a free agent until Tuesday.
Sutherland played 58 collegiate games at Penn State where he recorded 137 tackles, eight tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks, one interception, one forced fumble, and two blocked kicks.
The Ottawa native ran a 4.58-second forty-yard dash at his pro day and leaped a 37.5-inch vertical jump and a ten-foot, three-inch broad jump. He also ran a 4.13-second short shuttle and 6.87-second three-cone, while putting up 25 reps of 225 pounds on the bench press.
Sutherland was selected with the fifth overall pick in the 2023 CFL Draft by the Montreal Alouettes, who own his exclusive rights north of the border.
Seattle currently sits first in the NFC West with a record of 5-2.
