When it comes to the Canadian Football League, two-time Grammy Award winner Shaggy can no longer claim it wasn’t him.

On Thursday, Grey Cup Festival organizers announced that the reggae sensation will be taking part in the 2023 CFL Awards at Fallsview Casino in Niagara Falls on Thursday, November 16. Following the event, Shaggy will perform on the OLG Stage, with all CFL Awards ticket holders granted access to the lower bowl for the concert.

The Jamaican-American singer-songwriter is the only Diamond-selling dancehall artist in history, with more than 40 million albums sold to date. He’s also credited with eight singles on the Billboard Hot 100, including iconic songs like “It Wasn’t Me,” “Boombastic,” “Angel,” and “Hey Sexy Lady.” He has had four albums on the Billboard Top 40 and ranks among the top three most streamed reggae artists of all time on Spotify, alongside Bob Marley and Sean Paul.

Shaggy’s appearance adds another marquee concert to a Grey Cup Festival in Hamilton that is pushing live music to the forefront. Country superstar Carrie Underwood is scheduled to kick off the Built in the Hammer Grey Cup Music Festival on Friday, November 17, while punk rock icons Green Day will wrap up the festivities with their half-time performance at the 110th Grey Cup.

The 2023 CFL Awards will begin on Thursday, November 16 at 6:30 p.m. EDT. The event will be hosted by TSN’s Kate Beirness alongside comedian K. Trevor Wilson, best known for playing the role of Squirrely Dan on the hit TV show Letterkenny.
