The Ontario University Athletics (OUA) conference wrapped up its regular season this weekend and has locked in its first-round playoff matchups.
The seventh-seeded Waterloo Warriors (3-5) will travel to their cross-town rivals, the second-place Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks (7-1), for the first of three quarterfinals on Saturday, October 28 at 1:00 p.m. EDT. It will be a rematch of the Battle of Waterloo in Week 4, which Laurier took by a score of 47-20.
At the same time, the fifth-place Ottawa Gee-Gees (4-4) will visit the fourth-seeded Queen’s Golden Gaels (5-3). The two squads met just last week, with Queen’s seizing home-field advantage with a 12-8 win in their homecoming game.
The evening game, which is scheduled to kick off at 4:00 p.m. EDT, will feature the third-place Windsor Lancers (6-2) hosting the sixth-seeded Carleton Ravens (4-4). It will be the first meeting between the two teams this season, with Carleton taking their last matchup 24-7 in Week 4 of 2022.
The Guelph Gryphons (3-5), Toronto Varsity Blues (2-6), McMaster Marauders (2-6), and York Lions (0-8) all missed the postseason.
By virtue of their victory over Laurier on Saturday, the top-ranked Western Mustangs (8-0) will enjoy a first-round bye. They will face off against the lowest-seeded quarterfinal winner when the OUA semi-finals kick off on Saturday, November 4.
The 115th Yates Cup will be played on Saturday, November 11 to crown the OUA conference champion. The victor will then travel to Quebec to take on the Dunsmore Cup winner in the Uteck Bowl national semi-final for a chance to play in the Vanier Cup.
