The Hamilton Tiger-Cats have released a trio of players in American receiver Chris Coleman, American defensive back Donnie Lewis Jr., and Canadian defensive back Zach Herzog.
Coleman made 48 receptions for 702 yards and five touchdowns over two seasons at Cal Poly University. He originally started his collegiate career at Fresno State where he made 16 catches for 265 yards and one touchdown over 24 games. He signed with the Miami Dolphins after going unselected in the 2023 NFL Draft but was cut following training camp.
Lewis was a seventh-round pick of the Cleveland Browns in 2019 but never suited up in an NFL game over four seasons with Cleveland, Cincinnati and Denver. He played in 46 games over four years at Tulane, notching 161 tackles, eight interceptions and 48 pass breakups.
Herzog was originally a seventh-round selection of the Saskatchewan Roughriders in the 2022 CFL Draft out of Hillsdale College. He was in training camp with the team but was released following its conclusion and entered the U Sports ranks where he played 11 games with the UBC Thunderbirds, recording 49 total tackles, 0.5 tackles for loss, four knockdowns, and one interception.
Herzog was in training camp with the Ticats in January but was released by the team in May. He has yet to dress for a CFL game in his career.
The native of Windsor, Ont. played 30 games over five seasons with the Chargers in NCAA Division II (2017-21), registering 244 total tackles, 6.5 tackles for loss, one quarterback sack, three forced fumbles, one fumble recovery, and three interceptions. He was named first-team All-Great Midwest Athletic Conference in 2019.
None of the released players have seen game action with Hamilton.
The Ticats (8-8) will return to action on Friday, October 13 when they host the B.C. Lions (11-5).
