St. FX X-Men QB Silas Fagnan headlines U Sports players of the week

St. FX X-Men quarterback Silas Fagnan has been named the U Sports offensive player of the week for his performance in the team’s 42-9 win over the Acadia Axemen.

The third-year passer from Bonnyville, Alta. complete 17-of-23 pass attempts for 350 yards, and three touchdowns and carried the ball four times for 22 yards. Fagnan has led the X-Men to a perfect 6-0 record this season and leads the AUS Conference in completions, passing yards, and quarterback efficiency.

The other nominees for the award were Montreal quarterback Jonathan Sénécal (RSEQ) and Wilfrid Laurier running back Quentin Scott (OUA).

St. FX X-Men linebacker Josh Connors was named the U Sports defensive player of the week after recording eight tackles, two tackles for a loss, and one sack in the win over Acadia. The third-year defender from Toronto leads in the AUS Conference in tackles, averaging seven per game.

The other nominees for the awards were Laval defensive back Jordan Lessard (RSEQ) and Toronto defensive back Luca Pante (OUA).

Laval Rouge et Or return specialist Guillaume Cauchon was named the U Sports special teams player of the week after he returned a missed field goal for a 110-yard touchdown in his team’s 23-7 win over the Concordia Stingers. It was the fifth-longest missed field goal return in conference history.

The other nominees for the award were Bishop’s kicker Xavier Gervais (AUS) and McMaster kicker Michael Horvat (OUA).
