The Saskatchewan Huskies have reentered the top five of the U Sports football rankings after defeating the UBC Thunderbirds by a score of 34-31 this past weekend.

The Huskies fell to No. 8 in last week’s rankings, which was three spots behind UBC. They responded by beating the Thunderbirds at Griffiths Stadium in Saskatoon as Anton Amundrud threw for 304 yards and two touchdowns, both of which were caught by Ottawa Redblacks’ draft pick Daniel Perry.

Nixen Voll and Finn Marcotte-Cribb both picked off UBC’s Garrett Rooker as Saskatchewan limited Isaiah Knight to 71 yards along the ground. This was the only regular season meeting between the two teams who could very well meet in the Hardy Cup again this year as they did in 2022.

The loss moved UBC from No. 5 to No. 7 as the St. FX X-Men and Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks leapfrogged them in the rankings.

The Windsor Lancers fell from No. 4 to No. 8 after suffering their first loss of the season to the Western Mustangs by a score of 21-10. The Lancers started the season off 5-0 for the first time since 1975 before suffering the defeat.

The Western Mustangs (No. 1), Montreal Carabins (No. 2), Laval Rouge et Or (No. 3), Alberta Golden Bears (No. 9), and Bishop’s Gaiters (No. 10) held firm in their same positions from a week ago.
