Hamilton Tiger-Cats’ defensive back Javien Elliott won’t get a chance to face his former team this season, as he has been placed on the six-game injured list ahead of Saturday’s clash with the Calgary Stampeders.
Elliott has been productive since joining the Ticats in free agency this offseason, starting all 14 games at boundary halfback and amassing 32 tackles and three interceptions. The former NFL draft pick spent the previous two seasons in Calgary, playing in just six games and registering 14 tackles.
The Ticats have not disclosed the nature of Elliott’s injury. Rookie Kenneth George Jr. will bump over to replace him at halfback, with Will Sunderland taking over at cornerback.
Also missing from the lineup this week is veteran Canadian defensive tackle Ted Laurent (hamstring), who has been moved to the one-game injured list. The 35-year-old has registered 13 defensive tackles, three sacks, and a forced fumble this season, but will be replaced by Mohamed Diallo.
New free agent signing Jamal Davis II, who was released by the Montreal earlier this week, will be making his Ticats debut in the pass-rushing rotation, bumping Tre Crawford to the practice roster. Davis has recorded 22 defensive tackles, one special teams tackle, and three sacks over 14 games this season
Canadian receiver Chris Osei-Kusi will also dress in place of the recently released Richie Sindani.
The Ticats (6-8) will host the Stampeders (4-10) on Saturday, September 30 at 7:00 p.m. EDT. It is the first and only meeting between the two teams this season.
