We’re set for a four-game slate in Week 17 of the Canadian Football League season, and below are our predictions for two of those contests.
Week 17 CFL betting odds and picks: Best bets for Toronto vs. Winnipeg, Saskatchewan at B.C.
With just four weeks left in the regular season, the postseason picture is beginning to take shape. I’m focusing in on two games that involve the pair of squads battling for the West Division crown and which should therefore have plenty of incentive in their Week 17 contests.
Friday, Sept. 29: Toronto Argonauts at Winnipeg Blue Bombers – 8:00 p.m. EDT
The difference in motivation and likely personnel usage between these two teams is especially striking this week.
While the Argos have clinched the East Division and boast the league’s best record at 12-1, the Blue Bombers are tied with the Lions atop the West. Neither Winnipeg nor B.C. can clinch the division crown this weekend, yet both teams know they naturally need to keep winning to have a chance.
Consequently, the Bombers should be in a prime position for a win, and oddsmakers certainly seem to agree considering Winnipeg is as much as a -340 favourite. Then, backup quarterback Cameron Dukes was announced as the starter, with Chad Kelly expected to sit out altogether for Toronto.
Winnipeg could be down Dalton Schoen (hip), who’s listed as questionable, but the Bombers otherwise have a full arsenal of weapons and are 6-1 at home this season.
With a potentially short-handed Toronto squad conceivably struggling to hold up its end on the scoreboard against a Bombers defence surrendering a league-low 17.8 offensive points per game, a parlay with the Under that sidesteps the heavy juice on a straight Bombers moneyline bet is in play.
The Pick: Same-Game Parlay- Blue Bombers moneyline and Under 48 points (+147 or better)

Friday, Sept. 29: Saskatchewan Roughriders at B.C. Lions – 10:30 p.m. EDT
The Roughriders are 6-8 and still in playoff contention, so there’s certainly motivation on their end. However, there’s arguably both more incentive and talent on the opposing sideline, where, as mentioned earlier, the Lions need to win to keep pace with the Bombers and also lock up a home playoff game with a victory.
B.C.’s offensive prowess is a bad matchup for a Roughriders squad that’s now allowing a league-high 30.4 points per game, as well as the second-most rushing yards per contest (126.9) and 5.3 yards per carry.
The Lions did drop a 34-29 decision to Saskatchewan back in Week 11. However, that game took place in Regina and came at a time when the Riders were playing much better overall. They still surrendered 465 total net yards to B.C. in that contest.
Taquan Mizzell’s prop makes for a great pairing with a bet on the Lions coming through as heavy favourites, considering the Riders’ struggles versus the run, the fact B.C. is up to a 10-point favourite and therefore likely to have a sizable lead in the second half, and that the versatile back is coming off his second 100-yard effort of the campaign in Week 15.
Mizzell has also eclipsed the 60.5-yard mark on five occasions this season, strengthening the case for the parlay wager.
The Pick: Same-Game Parlay – Lions moneyline and Taquan Mizzell Over 60.5 rushing yards (-102 or better)
