The Ottawa Redblacks have signed three players to their practice roster, including former Hamilton Tiger-Cats’ linebacker Vosean Joseph.
The six-foot-one, 230-pound defender played eight games with Hamilton in 2022, recording four tackles and one sack. He dressed for one game with the team earlier this year and made four total tackles prior to his recent release.
The native of Miami, Fla. was a fifth-round selection of the Buffalo Bills in the 2019 NFL Draft. He spent his rookie season on injured reserve and was waived by the team after training camp the following year.
Joseph played 37 games over three seasons at the University of Florida and made 161 total tackles, 14 tackles for loss, four quarterback sacks, seven pass breakups, and one interception as a member of the Gators.
The Redblacks also brought back Canadian offensive lineman Eric Starczala. The six-foot-five, 310-pound blocker was a seventh-round pick of the Toronto Argonauts in the 2019 CFL Draft out of the University of Guelph. The native of Cambridge, Ont. joined the Redblacks as a free agent in January 2022 and spent most of the season on the practice roster and has since had several stints in Ottawa.
Ottawa also signed American receiver Jon’Vea Johnson, who was also with the Ticats earlier this year. He caught two passes for 27 yards during the preseason.
The six-foot, 190-pound target spent the 2022 season on the practice roster with the Montreal Alouettes after previously bouncing around the NFL with the Dallas Cowboys, Jacksonville Jaguars, and Chicago Bears.
Johnson made 120 receptions for 2,186 yards and 24 touchdowns over four seasons at the University of Toledo (2015-18), earning second-team All-Mid-American Conference honour in 2016 and third-team status in 2018.
The Redblacks (4-10) will host the Montreal Alouettes (7-7) on Saturday, Sept. 30 with kickoff slated for 4:00 p.m. EDT.
