The Ottawa Redblacks will roll into BC Place on Saturday with a roster virtually unchanged, save for one key face missing in the secondary.
Earlier this week, it was reported that veteran halfback Abdul Kanneh had been lost for the season with a broken hand. The five-foot-ten, 170-pound cover man has started all 13 games for the Redblacks at field-side halfback this season and made 38 tackles and one interception.
The 33-year-old former all-star will be replaced by rookie Deandre Lamont. The Illinois State product has dressed for six games this season, making 13 tackles while seeing time at strongside linebacker, halfback, and cornerback.
On the other side of the ball, the Redblacks have swapped their sixth offensive lineman. Former Lion Hunter Steward will be a healthy scratch in his return to B.C., while second-year man Zack Pelehos draws back into the lineup.
Receiver Siaosi Mariner will also be a healthy scratch, while Canadian running back Jackson Bennett (back) remains on the one-game injured list. Kanneh joins a loaded six-game injured list that still includes quarterbacks Jeremiah Masoli and Tyrie Adams, defensive backs Money Hunter and Hakeem Bailey, linebackers Dan Basambombo, Tyron Vrede and Gary Johnson Jr., and returner DeVonte Dedmon.
The Redblacks (3-9) will visit the Lions (8-4) on Saturday, September 16 at 7:00 p.m. EDT. This is the first and only matchup between the two teams this season.
