The Toronto Argonauts have signed American defensive back Benjie Franklin.

The 26-year-old went unselected in the 2022 NFL Draft but has since spent time with the Jacksonville Jaguars, Seattle Seahawks, and Green Bay Packers.

The six-foot, 172-pound cover man played 29 games at Tarleton State (2019-21) in Stephenville, Texas in which he recorded 103 tackles, 1.5 tackles for loss, eight interceptions, and one fumble recovery.

The Houston native started his collegiate career at Navarro College in Corsicana, Texas where he was named the Defensive Player of the Year in 2018 after making six interceptions.

Toronto has suffered a rash of recent injuries to their defensive backs, losing DaShaun Amos and Robertson Daniel to what appear to be long-term ailments.

The Argos (10-1) are scheduled to visit the Montreal Alouettes (6-6) on Friday, Sept. 15 with kickoff slated for 7:00 p.m. EDT. The teams met at BMO Field this past week where the Argos won by a score of 39-10.
