The Toronto Argonauts have been forced to shake up their secondary ahead of Monday’s Labour Day Classic.
Veteran halfback DaShaun Amos (ankle) has been added to the six-game injured list after he was carted off the field early in last week’s win over the Calgary Stampeders. He is joined on the long-term injured list by backup safety Josh Hagerty (shoulder), who was hurt after the team was forced to shuffle their lineup.
Amos has been an impact performer throughout his five-year CFL career, earning a West Division all-star selection with Calgary in 2019. In nine games this season, he has collected 16 defensive tackles, two interceptions, and a defensive touchdown.
Second-year defensive back Tarvarus McFadden has been inserted back into the lineup after being a healthy scratch last week and will take over at halfback. In seven appearances at cornerback this season, the 26-year-old has collected nine tackles and two interceptions. Rookie Mason Pierce will dress for the first time as an extra body in the secondary.
Also slated to miss the rivalry clash this week are defensive end Thomas Costigan and offensive lineman Shane Richards, both of whom will be healthy scratches. Guard Dylan Giffen returns from a chest injury to serve as the seventh offensive lineman, while Canadian receiver Tommy Nield rounds out the ratio.
The Argos (8-1) will visit the Hamilton Tiger-Cats (4-6) on Monday, September 4 at 3:30 p.m. EDT. Toronto has won the two previous meetings between the clubs this season and are looking to claim a second straight Labour Day Classic victory.
