The Winnipeg Blue Bombers have added a pair of depth defenders to the six-game injured list ahead of their Labour Day Classic matchup with the Saskatchewan Roughriders.

Strong-side linebacker Alden Darby, who was not listed on this week’s injury report, has been ruled out long-term, as has Canadian linebacker Shayne Gauthier (hip).

A six-year CFL veteran, Darby started the first six games of the season before being leapfrogged on the depth chart by Canadian Redha Kramdi. He collected 20 defensive tackles and three special teams tackles in 11 appearances. Meanwhile, Gauthier, now in his seventh season with the Bombers, has chipped in three special teams tackles and two more on defence.

Second-year defensive back Jamal Parker will make his second appearance of the season in place of Darby, looking to build off a rookie campaign that saw him collect 37 defensive tackles and an interception. Fullback Konner Burtenshaw will assume Gauthier’s role on special teams.

Players remaining on Winnipeg’s six-game injured list include linebackers Jared Beeksma and Malik Clements, defensive ends Celestin Haba and Thiadric Hansen, defensive back Desmond Lawrence, fullback Mike Miller, and returner Janarion Grant.

The Bombers (9-2) will face the Riders (5-5) at 7:00 p.m. EDT on Sunday, September 3 in front of a sold-out crowd at Mosaic Stadium. Winnipeg has won the last two Labour Day Classics and can officially clinch a playoff berth with a third straight victory.
