Montreal Carabins’ quarterback Jonathan Sénécal has been named the U Sports offensive player of the week following the opening slate of games this past weekend.
The second-year passer completed 26-of-30 pass attempts for 397 yards and a career-high four touchdowns in a 43-11 win over the McGill Redbirds. He connected with four different receivers for each of his touchdowns, hitting Hassane Dosso, Alexander Dudley, William Legault, and Lyshawn Dubois.
St. FX defensive end Alex Fedchun was named the U Sports defensive player of the week after recording eight tackles and 2.5 sacks in a 22-8 win over the Bishop’s Gaiters. The 2023 CFL Draft pick now has 19.5 sacks in his career, breaking the school’s previous all-time career sack record of 18.
Acadia placekicker Thomas Veinot was named the special teams player of the week after kicking a last-second 15-yard game-winning field goal for the Axemen. Veinot finished the game two-for-three on field goals, help the Axemen defeat Mount Allison 15-13. It was a huge win for Acadia considering the team finished 0-8 in 2022.
