The Indianapolis Colts have waived Canadian offensive lineman Dakoda Shepley, according to KPRC 2 Houston reporter Aaron Wilson.
The 28-year-old spent last season on the practice roster with the Dallas Cowboys until the club’s regular season finale this past week when he was signed to the active roster. He was waived following the completion of the game in order for the Cowboys to move him back on the practice roster, which is when he was claimed by the Colts.
The native of Windsor, Ont. dressed for four games with the Cowboys in 2022, playing a total of 30 snaps. He joined the team after being waived following the completion of training camp with the Seattle Seahawks.
Shepley originally joined the Seahawks in September 2021 after he was claimed off waivers from the San Francisco 49ers. He suited up for eight games with the team but did not see any offensive snaps.
The University of British Columbia product made his NFL debut with the 49ers in 2020 after being called up from the practice squad in Week 14. He finished the season by dressing for the final three games with San Francisco.
Shepley was a first-round pick of the Saskatchewan Roughriders in the 2018 CFL Draft. He signed with the team in March 2019 following a stint with the New York Jets and started 14 games at right guard that season, winning the team’s Most Outstanding Rookie award.
The six-foot-five, 317-pound blocker opted out of his CFL contract in August 2020 to pursue the NFL, signing a one-year deal with the 49ers. His contract with the Riders has since expired, allowing him to sign with any team in the CFL should he choose to return north of the border. He has earned over $1.2 million in his NFL career so far.
