Former CFL defensive back Rodney Randle Jr. has been released by the New England Patriots as part of their final roster cuts.

Randle signed with the team in January and appeared in all three of the team’s preseason games, totalling 13 tackles and one pass breakup.

The 25-year-old split the 2022 season between the Montreal Alouettes and Hamilton Tiger-Cats, who signed him in August following his release from the Als. He recorded 14 tackles and two interceptions over four games that he started at field-side cornerback for his new team.

The six-foot, 170-pound cover man played 19 games over two seasons with Montreal prior to his release, registering 44 defensive tackles, 11 special teams tackles, and two interceptions.

Randle played collegiately at Lamar University for four seasons (2015-2018) where he appeared in 41 games, recording 170 tackles, one sack, and five interceptions. The native of Beaumont, Texas was previously a member of the San Diego Chargers in 2019 and the Tampa Bay Vipers of the XFL in 2020.

NFL teams have until Tuesday, August 29 at 4:00 p.m. EDT to cut their rosters down to 53 players.
