The Edmonton Elks are getting one of the CFL’s top receivers back in the lineup when they visit the Hamilton Tiger-Cats on Thursday night.
Eugene Lewis is officially returning from a knee injury that has held him out of the club’s last six games. He played three contests to start the year and made 11 receptions for 200 yards and one touchdown. The two-time CFL all-star signed with Edmonton this past off-season, becoming the league’s highest-paid non-quarterback.
Canadian quarterback Tre Ford will make a second consecutive start under centre with rookie Jarret Doege dressing as his backup. The former first-round pick threw for 189 yards, one touchdown, and one interception against the Winnipeg Blue Bombers this past week and carried the ball five times for 50 yards and a touchdown.
Defensive back Loucheiz Purifoy has been added to the six-game injured list with a calf issue. He has started the club’s last six games at strong-side linebacker after starting the year at safety. Marloshawn Franklin Jr. will move to Purifoy’s spot in the starting lineup after starting the past three games at safety, where he’ll be replaced by Scott Hutter.
Canadian linebacker Woodly Appolon has been moved to the one-game injured list, while American defensive lineman Elliott Brown has been placed on the six-game injured. Those who remain out of the lineup for Edmonton include offensive lineman Josiah St. John, defensive lineman J-Min Pelley, and defensive back Aaron Grymes.
The Elks (0-9) will visit the Hamilton Tiger-Cats (3-5) on Thursday, Aug. 17 with kickoff slated for 7:30 p.m. EDT. The clubs met at Commonwealth Stadium in Week 6 with the Ticats earning a 37-29 victory.
