The Toronto Argonauts will not have all-star cornerback Jamal Peters in the lineup when they take on the Calgary Stampeders on Friday.
Peters has been added to the one-game injured list despite not appearing on this week’s injury report. Rookie Qwan’tez Stiggers will flip over to the boundary side to accommodate the move, while Tarvarus McFadden is set to start on the fieldside after being a healthy scratch last week.
The 26-year-old Peters started 15 games for the Argos at boundary cornerback in 2022 and recorded 57 tackles, six interceptions, one sack, and one touchdown, earning CFL all-star status and helping the team win a Grey Cup. He briefly signed with the Atlanta Falcons this offseason but was released ahead of the CFL season.
In five games since rejoining the Argos, Peters has registered 15 defensive tackles, one interception, and one forced fumble.
Offensively, the team’s lone change to the starting lineup comes along the offensive line, where Darius Ciraco will miss the game for non-injury-related reasons. Peter Nicastro will bump over to assume the centre spot and 2022 first-round pick Gregor MacKellar will make his first start of the season at right guard, after making 12 starts a year ago. Shane Richards returns from an ankle injury to be the sixth offensive lineman.
Elsewhere, Friday will mark the return of a trio of depth Canadians. Backup safety Josh Hagerty will make his first appearance of the season, while defensive end Benoit Marion and running back Daniel Adeboboye both return from short-term absences.
Rookie fullback Spencer Nichols (head) has been placed on the six-game injured list, while defensive back Eric Sutton and linebacker Daniel Kwamou have been moved to the practice roster.
The Argos (6-0) will visit the Stampeders (2-4) on Friday, August 4 at 9:00 p.m. EDT. They are currently point favourites.
