Montreal Alouettes sign three, including former Redblacks’ starter Randall Evans

The Montreal Alouettes signed three American players on Wednesday, including defensive back Randall Evans, receiver Ronnie Blackmon, and linebacker Brody Buck.

Evans was released by the Ottawa Redblacks last summer after starting eight games at boundary halfback and recording 41 total tackles. He was also a full-time starter at boundary halfback in 2021 and made 82 total tackles, four sacks, two interceptions, and two forced fumbles.

The 31-year-old was a sixth-round pick of the Philadelphia Eagles in the 2015 NFL Draft. He spent three years down south with the Eagles and San Diego Chargers before signing with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats. He was released following one game with the Tabbies and signed with the Redblacks in August 2018.

The Kansas State has made 179 defensive tackles, 29 special teams tackles, four sacks, two interceptions, and two forced fumbles through 46 career CFL games.

Blackmon played 24 games over two years at the University of Colorado to start his collegiate career, recording 883 return yards. He was listed as a defensive back with the team as he was named first-team All-State as a senior in high school as well as the Metro Atlanta Defensive Player of the Year.

The native of Atlanta, Ga. converted to receiver after transferring to Toledo and made 12 catches for 149 yards and two touchdowns over six games with the Rockets. He also returned 13 punts for 59 yards.

The five-foot-eleven, 185-pounder finished his career with two seasons at West Georgia where he caught 72 passes for 860 yards and eight touchdowns, returned 24 kickoffs for 510 yards, and returned 33 punts for 295 yards and one touchdown.

Buck made 56 total tackles, three tackles for loss, and 1.5 sacks in his final collegiate season at Northwest Missouri State. He went unselected in the 2022 NFL Draft and joined the Birmingham Stallions of the USFL, recording 20 total tackles and 1.5 sacks with the team.

The Alouettes (3-3) are scheduled to visit the Hamilton Tiger-Cats (3-4) on Saturday, Aug. 5 with kickoff slated for 7:00 p.m. EDT.
