Two key members of the B.C. Lions have been named the CFL’s top performers for the month of July by Pro Football Focus (PFF). These selections were made from games that took place from Week 5 to Week 8.
Veteran quarterback Dane Evans was the league’s top performer on offence, earning a grade of 90.9. He played two games in place of an injured Vernon Adams Jr., leading the Lions to back-to-back wins and completing 71.9 percent of his passes for 549 yards and three touchdowns. He had three completions of 30 yards or more along with two completions of 50 yards or more.
The two honourable mentions behind Evans were Winnipeg Blue Bombers’ quarterback Zach Collaros with a grade of 87.2 and Toronto Argonauts’ quarterback Chad Kelly with a grade of 85.6.
Defensive back Garry Peters was named the CFL’s top defensive performer after making seven defensive tackles, one pass knockdown, and two interceptions over three games with B.C., playing a total of 170 snaps. He earned a grade of 83.4.
The two honourable mentions behind Peters were Ottawa Redblacks’ defensive back Alonzo Addae with a grade of 82.4 and Montreal Alouettes’ defensive lineman Mustafa Johnson with a grade of 82.0.
The Winnipeg Blue Bombers had the highest-graded offensive line in the month of July, receiving a grade of 79.0. Centre Chris Kolankowski received the highest individual grade at 73.0, followed by left guard Liam Dobson (70.5) and left tackle Stanley Bryant (63.7).
The CFL partnered with PFF for the first time ahead of the 2023 season. The American company uses game footage to review every player on the field and grades their individual performances on a scale from zero to 100.
The best individual performers by player grade from each of the nine position groups are named to a monthly team. Offensive and defensive players must play a minimum of 75 snaps to be eligible and special teams players must play 25.
