The Ottawa Redblacks have released American receiver Savon Scarver.
The 24-year-old rookie appeared in each of the Redblacks’ first five games of the season, making three starts, before being demoted to the practice roster last week. He recorded seven receptions for 69 yards while returning three punts for 18 yards and registering two tackles.
Scarver went unselected in the 2022 NFL Draft but briefly signed with the Chicago Bears as an undrafted free agent. He was twice named first-team All-Mountain West while playing at Utah State (2017-2021)
The five-foot-11, 175-pound speedster was a consensus All-American in 2018 as an all-purpose player, also receiving the Jet Award as the nation’s top returner. In 56 career games for the Aggies, Scarver returned 107 kickoffs for 2,935 yards and seven touchdowns, adding 55 receptions for 757 yards and five scores.
The Redblacks (3-3) will host the Hamilton Tiger-Cats (2-4) on Friday, July 28.
