An arrest warrant was issued and later cancelled for Ottawa Redblacks’ receiver Quan Bray by a Montreal court on Thursday as he gets set to face charges of sexual assault and obstruction of justice.

According to a report from Paul Cherry of the Montreal Gazette, Bray was arrested in April for allegedly sexually assaulting and choking a woman while playing for the Alouettes in 2021. He is also accused of obstructing justice between December 5, 2021, and July 21, 2022, while trying to convince the woman to withdraw her police complaint.

Bray made his first appearance in court on May 1. He was scheduled to appear again on Thursday morning but did not show, prompting the warrant for his arrest. However, the warrant was later cancelled after a lawyer representing Bray appeared for the Thursday afternoon session. The receiver was not required to personally be in attendance.

The 30-year-old pass catcher originally joined the Redblacks in October of 2022 but did not see action that season. He has started in each of the first two games this year, making seven receptions for 153 yards. The Redblacks listed him as a starting receiver on their depth chart for Friday’s game with the Edmonton Elks, which was issued early Thursday morning.

Bray first arrived in the CFL in 2019 with the Montreal Alouettes, catching 58 passes for 818 yards and six touchdowns in 15 games. He returned to the team in 2021 and suited up for 12 games, posting 35 receptions for 481 yards and two touchdowns.

The LaGrange, Ga. native nearly missed the 2021 season after he was arrested in February 2020 for transporting 157 pounds of marijuana alongside former Auburn University teammate Greg Robinson. One of the charges against him was dropped, while he pled guilty to the other and was required to pay a fine.

Bray played his college football at Auburn University before spending parts of four seasons in the NFL with the Indianapolis Colts, Buffalo Bills, and Houston Texans.
