Winnipeg Blue Bombers release Tyrrell Pigrome, re-sign QB Dakota Prukop

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers have released rookie Tyrrell Pigrome and signed veteran quarterback Dakota Prukop to a one-year contract for the 2023 season.

The 25-year-old Pigrome was a preseason sensation for the blue and gold. He had dressed as Winnipeg’s third QB for the Bombers’ first three games of the schedule.

Pigrome had several stops during his NCAA career, playing at the University of Maryland (2016-19), Western Kentucky (2020), Ole Miss (2021), and Towson (2022). He threw for 1,638 yards, 14 touchdowns, and six interceptions with the Tigers this past season along with 134 carries for 574 yards and two touchdowns.

The five-foot-ten, 200-pound passer threw for 3,380 yards, 18 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions with Maryland and Western Kentucky. He also ran the ball 281 times for 955 yards and 12 touchdowns.

The six-foot-one, 212-pound Prukop returns to the Blue Bombers after dressing for four games this past season with the New Jersey Generals of the United States Football League. In those four games, Prukop completed 31-of-50 passes for 312 yards with three touchdowns while adding 97 yards on the ground and one rushing touchdown. Prukop held the highest passer rating on the team with 91.4.

The 29-year-old has appeared in 61 CFL games in his career with the Toronto Argonauts (2017-2019), Edmonton Elks (2021) and Winnipeg Blue Bombers (2022). During that time, Prukop has recorded 648 passing yards, 382 rushing yards, six passing touchdowns and eight rushing touchdowns.

Last season with the Bombers, Prukop had six rushing touchdowns, two passing touchdowns, 181 passing yards and 209 rushing yards. In the 2022 playoffs, Prukop rushed for a touchdown in the West Final and scored two touchdowns in the 109th Grey Cup loss to the Toronto Argonauts.
