It is unclear who will start at quarterback for the Saskatchewan Roughriders when they host the Winnipeg Blue Bombers on Friday.

Saskatchewan held a closed practice on Wednesday, though the club’s injury report indicated that franchise quarterback Trevor Harris did not participate. He is questionable to play on Friday due to a hip injury he sustained during the club’s season-opening victory over the Edmonton Elks.

If Harris is unable to play, it appears likely that Mason Fine, who took first-team reps on Tuesday, would get the nod. The club is expected to unveil its official depth chart for the contest on Thursday morning.

Harris completed 20-of-33 pass attempts for 179 yards, one touchdown, and two interceptions in his debut with the club, helping lead the Riders to a 17-13 victory over the Edmonton Elks. He was injured on Saskatchewan’s final offensive play of the game when he was hit while delivering a pass designed to run out the clock, which drew criticism from pundits around the league.

Fine is in his third season with the club and has thrown for 754 yards, three touchdowns, and three interceptions over 19 career CFL games. He started the final two games of the 2022 season after Cody Fajardo was benched, losing back-to-back contests to the Calgary Stampeders.

Saskatchewan has also ruled out receiver Derel Walker (shoulder) and strong-side linebacker Derrick Moncrief (shoulder) for this week’s game. Boundary cornerback Nic Marshall is listed as doubtful due to a shoulder injury.

The Riders (1-0) are scheduled to host the Blue Bombers (1-0) on Friday with kickoff slated for 9:00 p.m. EDT. This will mark the first of three meetings between the prairie rivals this season with the other two coming in the Labour Day Classic and Banjo Bowl.
