The Calgary Stampeders have cancelled their scheduled Sunday practice at McMahon Stadium due to air quality issues.

Calgary was scheduled to hit the practice field for the first time since the team season-opening loss to the B.C. Lions last Thursday.

The Stampeders are not scheduled to be back on the practice field on Monday but still list Tuesday’s 11 a.m. local time practice session on their team website.

This is not the first time the team has been forced to cancel practice due to the same issue. In May, the Stampeders cancelled a pair of training camp sessions due to air quality issues arising from the wildfires that were ongoing in northern and central Alberta. The Edmonton Elks opted to move their sessions those days indoors.

The Ottawa Redblacks also had to cancel a practice session last week due to air quality issues from wildfires engulfing parts of Ontario.

In 2019, the CFL and CFL Players’ Association (CFLPA) agreed that players should not practice or play outdoors if the Air Quality Health Index (AQHI) is seven or higher. On Sunday, the AQHI is expected to reach a level of 10 in Calgary.

The Stampeders will play the Ottawa Redblacks at TD Place in Ottawa on Thursday, June 15. Kickoff is slated for 7:30 p.m. EDT.
