The Montreal Alouettes have set their roster for Saturday’s season-opener against the Ottawa Redblacks, introducing several new faces to the lineup.
Veteran quarterback Cody Fajardo will make his regular-season debut after joining the team in free agency. He’ll be joined by a pair of rookie receivers in the starting lineup, with Ohio State’s Austin Mack and Kent State’s Keshunn Abram each slated to play their first CFL game. Defensively, middle linebacker Avery Williams will make his first Alouettes appearance against his former team, while newcomer Dionte Ruffin draws the start at field cornerback.
Veteran receiver Greg Ellingson will not be in the lineup for Week 1 after signing with the team in free agency and will begin the year on the six-game injured list after missing practice due to a knee issue. Second-year Canadian pass catcher Tyson Philpot has been placed on the six-game with a hip injury, while defensive end Brock Gowanlock (shoulder), defensive back Kerfalla Exume (shoulder), and offensive lineman Patrick Davis (lower leg) have also been ruled out.
Defensive end Avery Ellis, running back Walter Fletcher, receiver Jake Harty, and linebacker Bryce Notree are all listed on the one-game injured list as healthy scratches.
The Redblacks will visit the Alouettes at Percival Molson Stadium on Saturday, June 9 with kickoff slated for 7:00 p.m. EDT.
