Ottawa Redblacks’ quarterback Jeremiah Masoli will miss the first two games of the regular season as he continues to recover from a leg injury he sustained early last year.

“It sucks,” Masoli told Postmedia’s Tim Baines. “You can hang your head and feel bad about it or you can make the decision to be positive and look at the glass half full. With my teammates in the locker room, I’m good.”

Ottawa has a bye in Week 3 that will provide the veteran quarterback will extra time to rest up ahead of a Week 4 meeting with the Edmonton Elks on June 30.

The 34-year-old passer completed 66.7 percent of his passes last season, his first in Ottawa, for 1,083 yards, two touchdowns, and two interceptions. He also carried the ball 11 times for 39 yards and one touchdown.

Nick Arbuckle, who was acquired via trade partway through last season, will start in Masoli’s place. The journeyman passer went 3-5 as a starter last season and threw for 2,400 yards, four touchdowns, and six interceptions. He also carried the ball 15 times for 65 yards and two touchdowns.

The Redblacks will open their regular season on the road against the Montreal Alouettes on Saturday, June 10 with kickoff slated for 7:00 p.m. EDT.
