The Hamilton Tiger-Cats have cut 21 players ahead of the CFL’s roster deadline, including American receiver Papi White.
The five-foot-nine, 170-pound speedster has played in 13 games since joining the Ticats in 2021, catching 42 passes for 414 yards and a touchdown while adding 19 carries for 56 yards and 18 punt returns for 183 yards. The 26-year-old’s most memorable moment came in the 2021 East Final when he returned a punt 92 yards for a major.
Prior to his CFL career, White dressed for 43 games as a member of the Ohio Bobcats (2014-18), making 161 receptions for 2,620 yards and 19 touchdowns. He also carried the ball 91 times for 470 yards and six touchdowns.
Also released were American running back Trey Ragas; receivers Calvin Jackson Jr., Jon’Vea Johnson, and Khalil Lewis; offensive linemen Jordan Boatman and Moses Johnson; defensive linemen Ellison Hubbard and T.J. Johnson; linebacker Carlton Martial; defensive backs Tony Collier, Roger Cray Jr., Cortez Davis, Tyrone Hill Jr., and Ceasar Williams; and kickers Jonathan Garibay and Ethan Ratke. Canadian linebackers Jared Beeksma and Dyton Blackett, running back Keon Edwards, and offensive lineman Ben Koczwara were also let go.
In addition, American receiver Justin McGriff was added to the club’s suspended list.
Hamilton named 12 players to their practice roster, including American running back Tayon Fleet-Davis, receiver Lio’undre Gallimore, offensive lineman Kendrick Sartor, defensive lineman Nyles Pinckney, and defensive backs Carthell Flowers-Lloyd, Dexter Lawson, and Will Sunderland. Also remaining with the team on PR are Canadian defensive backs Patrick Burke Jr. and Robert Panabaker, and defensive lineman Reece Martin, as well as two Global players in punter Blake Hayes and defensive tackle Chris Mulumba.
The Ticats are scheduled to begin the 2023 season on Friday, June 9 on the road against the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.
