Canadian defensive lineman Sean Sevillano Jr. is committing to the University of Notre Dame, he announced on the 247Sports YouTube channel.
The six-foot-two, 300-pound defender out of Clearwater Academy International in Florida is a three-star recruit and the fifth-ranked Canadian prospect in the Class of 2024, according to CanadaFootballChat. He received over two-dozen offers from top NCAA programs, including Auburn, Cincinnati, Illinois, Miami, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Stanford, and Wisconsin.
Sevillano was enrolled at Dakota Collegiate in Winnipeg for his first year of high school football in 2020, which was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. He transferred to Clearwater in 2021 and has dominated in the two seasons since, recording 107 tackles, 55 tackles for loss, and 24 sacks over 21 games.
Notre Dame went more than 20 years without recruiting a Canadian prospect before landing Abbotsford, B.C. native Chase Claypool as part of their 2016 class. He would go on to play 50 games for the school at receiver, catching 150 passes for 2,159 yards and 19 touchdowns before being selected in the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft by the Pittsburgh Steelers.
The school added a pair of Canadian defensive ends as part of their class of 2023, signing Armel Ngueyam Mukam from La Prairie, Que. and Devan Houstan from Mississauga, Ont.
