Quarterback Cody Fajardo will make his debut for the Montreal Alouettes on Friday night, earning the start in the team’s preseason finale against the Hamilton Tiger-Cats.
The six-foot-two, 223-pound passer signed with the Alouettes in free agency after spending the past three seasons with the Saskatchewan Roughriders. He threw for 10,632 yards with 48 touchdowns and 32 interceptions as a member of the team, while also rushing 266 times for 1,436 yards and 22 scores.
Fajardo signed his first CFL contract with the Toronto Argonauts in 2015 following a brief stint with the Oakland Raiders. He spent three seasons with the team in a depth role before leaving as a free agent to serve as a backup with the B.C. Lions in 2018.
The 31-year-old didn’t travel for Montreal’s first preseason game, which ended in a 30-27 victory over Ottawa. The three quarterbacks who appeared in that game — Caleb Evans, Davis Alexander and Mike Glass III — are also expected to see action this week.
The Alouettes will have the majority of their starters in the lineup for this game with the exception of receivers Greg Ellingson and Tyson Philpot, and defensive end Nick Usher. Rookie receivers Austin Mack and Keshrunn Abram are listed as part of the first-team unit, while Nick Heninger draws the start on the defensive line.
The Alouettes are scheduled to host the Hamilton Tiger-Cats at 7:30 p.m. EDT on Friday, June 2 at Percival Molson Stadium.
