The Toronto Argonauts will field a veteran-laden squad when they host the Ottawa Redblacks in their preseason finale on Thursday.
Chad Kelly was originally slated to start last week’s preseason opener against the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, though he did not play due to elbow tightness. The former NFL draft pick is the club’s new starter as he has replaced McLeod Bethel-Thompson, who left for the USFL this past off-season to remain closer to his young family.
Canadian receiver Kurleigh Gittens Jr. will not play on Friday after leaving last week’s preseason game following a big hit from defensive back Lawrence Woods III. Though the injury initially appears to be serious, head coach Ryan Dinwiddie indicated that Gittens probably would have returned if it weren’t a preseason game.
Henoc Muamba will make his preseason debut, albeit in a depth role behind Jordan Williams at middle linebacker. Dariusz Bladek, the club’s projected starter at right guard, will not play for the second consecutive week, nor will veteran linebacker Wynton McManis.
The Argonauts will host the Ottawa Redblacks at Alumni Stadium on campus at the University of Guelph on Thursday with kickoff slated for 7:00 p.m. EDT.
