The Toronto Argonauts have signed American defensive tackle Keyshawn James after he was released by the Ottawa Redblacks earlier this week.

The six-foot-three, 280-pound lineman was a standout over four seasons at Fayetteville State, recording 228 total tackles, 61 tackles for loss, 30 sacks, 11 forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries, and one knockdown over 40 collegiate games. James was named the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association Defensive Player of the Year in 2021 and attended rookie minicamp with the New England Patriots after going unselected in the 2022 NFL Draft.

The team has also officially signed Mexican kicker Alfredo Gachuz Lozada, the ninth overall selection in the 2023 CFL Global Draft.

Lozada hails from the Naucalpan Raptors of the Liga de Futbol Americano Professional (LFA), where the 26-year-old has led the league in scoring five times and two-time all-star. He holds the LFA all-time record for field goals made and points scored, recently receiving an invitation to the Pittsburgh Steelers’ rookie mini-camp.

The Argos also released American receiver Changa Hodge, who was signed last week.
