Calgary Stampeders sign former NFL defensive back Chris Steele, release 11

The Calgary Stampeders have signed American defensive back Chris Steele and released 11 players.

Steele signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers after going unselected in the 2022 NFL Draft. He played in three preseason games before being released and later spent time with the Miami Dolphins, Seattle Seahawks, and Philadelphia Eagles.

The six-foot, 187-pound defensive back played 29 games at the University of Southern California where he made 94 total tackles, three tackles for loss, 12 pass knockdowns, three interceptions, one sack, one fumble recovery, and one forced fumble. He was named second-team All-Pac 12 in 2020.

The 11 players Calgary released include American running back LeVante Bellamy, American receiver Tim Wilson Jr., American offensive lineman Tyson Pauling, American defensive linemen Nik D’Avanzo, Jacob Pugh, and Rahssan Thornton, American linebacker Jordan Anthony, Global linebacker Ryan Gomes, American defensive backs Chris Brown and Michael Lawson, and Canadian defensive back Joachim Christian.

The Stampeders will resume training camp on Wednesday with practices scheduled for 9:30 a.m. and 3:50 p.m. local time.
