Toronto Argonauts sign Walter Payton Award nominee Deonta McMahon

The Toronto Argonauts have signed American running back Deonta McMahon.

The five-foot-nine, 185-pound ball-carrier ran for 2,155 yards and 21 touchdowns over 27 games at McNeese State along with 57 receptions for 519 yards and two touchdowns.

The native of Frostproof, Fla. was named first-team All-Southland Conference this past season as well as the Southland Conference’s Offensive Player of the Year. He was also a nominee for the Walter Payton Award, which is given annually to the Most Outstanding Offensive Player at the FCS level of college football.

McMahon started his collegiate career at Butte College in Oroville, Calif. where he was named an All-American after rushing for 1,214 yards and 15 touchdowns as a freshman.

The Argos are scheduled to open rookie minicamp on Wednesday, May 10.
