The Saskatchewan Roughriders are bringing classic Canadian rock back this summer, booking five-time Juno Award nominees The Northern Pikes for the summer concert series.
Formed in Saskatoon in 1984, the band went platinum in 1990 for their album Snow in June which included the hit single “She Ain’t Pretty.” In total, they have released seven studio albums, with a new release entitled TIME to TIME scheduled for June 2, 2023. They were inducted into the Western Canadian Music Hall of Fame in 2012.
The group, which currently consists of Jay Semko, Bryan Potvin, Don Schmid, and Kevin Kane, will take the stage at halftime during the Riders’ Week 5 clash with the Edmonton Elks on Thursday, July 6. The event will be part of the Pepsi Summer Concert Series.
The team had already announced a musical guest for their June 16 home-opener, pegging Canadian rock icon Kim Mitchell for a halftime concert. Both acts should delight the team’s older fans, while giving younger generations an excuse to use the restroom and shorter lineups at the concession stand.
