The Montreal Alouettes have signed American defensive back David Rivers III.

The six-foot, 185-pound cover man was most recently a member of the New Jersey Generals of the USFL. He also played for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in 2021, dressing for one regular season game with the club.

The 28-year-old went unselected in the 2017 NFL Draft but signed with the Green Bay Packers as a priority free agent. He has since been a member of the New York Jets, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and Miami Dolphins of the NFL. He has also played for the New York Guardians and St. Louis BattheHawks of the XFL.

In his final year in college at Youngstown State, Rivers made 33 total tackles in 16 games.

CFL teams are slated to open training camp on May 14 with rosters of 85 players excluding non-counters. The Alouettes will play their first preseason game against the Ottawa Redblacks on Friday, May 26 at 7:30 p.m. EDT at TD Place Stadium.
