As part of a theme night that the team is calling “the ultimate Dad’s Night Out” the Saskatchewan Roughriders will have Canadian rock icon Kim Mitchell perform during halftime of their 2023 home opener against the Winnipeg Blue Bombers on June 16.

Mitchell is a three-time Juno-award winner who has reached the top of the Canadian charts four times with his songs “Go for Soda,” “Patio Lanterns,” “Rock ‘n’ Roll Duty” and “Lemon Wedge.” The 70-year-old Sarnia, Ontario native was also inducted into the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2020 but due to the coronavirus pandemic was not formally awarded the honour until 2021.

The team will also be hosting a “Party in the Park” before the home opener which will feature relay games, dad-themed trivia, appearances from team alumni and a cornhole tournament.

In addition to the pregame activities and halftime concert, the first 5,000 dads to enter Mosaic Stadium on game day will receive a free Roughriders hat.

“After a long off-season, there’s no feeling quite like opening the doors to Mosaic Stadium for our first regular season game of the year,” said Saskatchewan Roughrider chief brand officer Anthony Partipilo. “We can’t wait to use this day to celebrate the return of football and all the dads and father figures who influenced our love of the game.”
