The Winnipeg Blue Bombers have signed American linebacker Joe Beckett.
The six-foot-four, 240-pound defender was a standout during his career at Wofford College, a private liberal arts school located in Spartanburg, S.C. He made 183 tackles, 14 tackles for loss, 6.5 sacks, one knockdown, one fumble recovery, and one forced fumble over 53 career games, which included 28 starts.
The native of Lexington, S.C. went unselected in the 2022 NFL Draft but took part in rookie minicamp with the New York Giants.
The Terriers play out of the Southern Conference of the NCAA Division I Football Championship Subdivision (FCS). Some notable alumni out of Wofford include Saskatchewan Roughriders’ offensive lineman Miles Brown, former first-round CFL draft pick Ameet Pall, and College Football Hall of Fame head coach Fisher DeBerry.
Winnipeg has veteran starters Adam Bighill and Kyrie Wilson set to return in the linebacking corps in 2023 along with depth American defenders Malik Clements, Brian Cole, and DeJuan Cooper.
