Edmonton Elks release REC Nih-Jer Jackson, sign one

The Edmonton Elks have released American receiver Nih-Jer Jackson, the team announced on Monday.

The six-foot-three, 190-pound target dressed for two games with the team during the 2022 season and received four targets, though he did not record any receptions. He started one game at slotback.

The native of Stockton, Calif. was in training camp with the team briefly, though he was released before their first preseason game. The 26-year-old played collegiately at Southeastern Louisiana in 2017 and 2018, making 36 receptions for 409 yards and two touchdowns in 21 games.

The Elks also signed American linebacker JaQuan Artis.

The six-foot-two, 245-pound defender was named the MVP of the IFL National Championship this past season as a member of the Northern Arizona Wranglers.

The native of Kinston, N.C. was named the IFL’s Defensive Rookie of the Year, a member of the IFL All-Rookie Team, and All-IFL First Team in 2022. He recorded 40 tackles, 17.5 tackles for loss, 9.5 sacks, two knockdowns, three forced fumbles, and one fumble recovery over 13 regular season games.

The 26-year-old played four seasons at Lenoir-Rhyne University, a Division II program located in Hickory, N.C. He led South Atlantic Conference in sacks as a senior in 2019 and was voted the SAC Defensive Player.
