Former Hamilton Tiger-Cats running back Wes Hills has signed with the USFL’s New Orleans Breakers.
Hills signed with the Ticats in March of 2021, dressing for just one game while spending the majority of his first season on the practice squad. The 27-year-old played a much more critical role down the stretch in 2022, carrying the ball 69 times for 384 yards and a touchdown in six games while adding 11 receptions for 105 yards.
The six-foot-one, 218-pound bruiser was originally linked to the Ottawa Redblacks in free agency but had a change of heart and opted to return south of the border.
Prior to his CFL career, Hills had stints with the Arizona Cardinals and Detroit Lions as an undrafted free agent. He played one game for Detroit in 2019, registering 10 carries for 21 yards and two rushing touchdowns, and adding two receptions for one yard.
The Wildwood, N.J. native played his final collegiate at Slippery Rock University and was named a second-team Division II All-American after rushing for 1,714 yards and 17 touchdowns in 12 games. He spent the first three seasons of his amateur career at the University of Delaware, rushing for 1,849 yards and scoring 14 total touchdowns in 32 games.
The USFL’s second season is scheduled to kick off on Saturday, April 15.
