The Edmonton Elks have beefed up their kicking competition, signing Canadian specialist Michael Domagala on Thursday.
Domagala had spent the previous two seasons with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats before hitting free agency on Tuesday, February 14. He played 17 games in 2022 and averaged 66.6 yards per kickoff — good enough for third in the CFL among players with at least 20 attempts. The 27-year-old also averaged 44.8 yards on 65 punts and made 12-of-16 field goal attempts last season.
Undrafted out of Carleton University, Domagala has connected on 19-of-26 career field goal attempts and 12-of-15 extra points while averaging 44.4 yards per punt.
The Elks also announced the re-signing of veteran American linebacker Tobi Antigha and the addition of quarterback Felix Harper.
Antigha played 12 games for Elks in 2022, registering 18 total tackles, one interception and one forced fumble. The 29-year-old has spent five seasons in the CFL with the Saskatchewan Roughriders, Toronto Argonauts, Winnipeg Blue Bombers, and Elks, lining up at defensive end, linebacker, and safety at various points in his career.
Harper threw for 5,619 yards and 55 touchdowns in 32 games for Alcorn State. He earned Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Offensive Player of the Year in 2019 after amassing 2,954 yards and 33 touchdowns through the air and rushing for six more. After going unselected in the 2022 NFL Draft, the five-foot-11, 180-pound pivot signed with the Montreal Alouettes in September but did not appear in any games.
