The USFL’s New Orleans Breakers have raided the CFL for some receiving talent, signing veteran Canadian pass catchers Hergy Mayala and Richie Sindani. Both players became free agents on Tuesday.

Mayala played 16 games for the Montreal Alouettes in 2022, providing a reliable depth option.

The Congolese-born, Montreal-raised pass catcher notched 33 receptions for 409 yards and two touchdowns in 16 regular season games.

Originally drafted eighth overall in the first round of the 2019 CFL Draft by Calgary, the 27-year-old UConn product burst onto the scene with 562 yards and five touchdowns as a rookie with the Stampeders. He finished with just 284 yards in his 2021 follow-up campaign but regained his form with Montreal.

Sindani played 13 games for the Calgary Stampeders in 2022, catching 26 passes for 255 yards and one touchdown. He was recently issued a two-game suspension by the CFL after testing positive for performance-enhancing drugs.

Originally selected in the eighth round of the 2017 CFL Draft, the six-foot-two, 220-pound target has hauled in 92 receptions for 986 yards and three touchdowns in 60 career games with Calgary.

The USFL’s second season is scheduled to kick off on Saturday, April 15.
