The Saskatchewan Roughriders have signed Canadian defensive back Godfrey Onyeka to a one-year contract extension, the team announced on Wednesday.
The six-foot-two, 200-pound defender battled a shoulder injury this past season, limiting him to two games in which he recorded two defensive tackles and two special teams tackles.
The 28-year-old played nine regular season games with the Riders in 2021 after signing with the club as a free agent, making 24 tackles at cornerback and strong-side linebacker. He also made seven special teams tackles.
The native of Brampton, Ont. was selected in the second round of the 2018 CFL Draft by Edmonton. He played 27 games over two seasons with the Elks, recording five defensive tackles and 13 special teams tackles.
Onyeka was a standout at Wilfrid Laurier University where he was a three-time first team U Sports All-Canadian and a three-time OUA first team all-star. He made 180 defensive tackles, 10 interceptions, 11 pass knockdowns, five forced fumbles, and two sacks as a member of the Golden Hawks.
