The Hamilton Tiger-Cats have signed American running back James Butler to a two-year contract, the team announced on Wednesday.

The five-foot-nine, 210-pound ball carrier recorded 210 carries for 1,060 yards and seven touchdowns this past season as a member of the B.C. Lions. He also caught 53 passes for 384 yards and four touchdowns.

The 27-year-old made his debut with B.C. in 2021 and carried the ball 101 times for 497 yards and two touchdowns along with 39 receptions for 243 yards and one touchdown.

The University of Iowa product went unselected in the 2018 CFL Draft but spent that season on the practice roster with the Oakland Raiders. He split the 2019 season between the Raiders and Saskatchewan Roughriders before joining the XFL’s Houston Roughnecks in 2020.
