The Hamilton Tiger-Cats have signed Canadian linebacker Fraser Sopik, the team announced on Wednesday.

The 25-year-old was a fourth-round selection of the Calgary Stampeders in the 2019 CFL Draft out of Western University. He dressed for 44 games over three seasons in the Stamps, recorded 31 defensive tackles, 30 special teams tackles, four sacks, and three forced fumbles.

The six-foot, 209-pound tackler made 21 total tackles this past season along with two quarterback sacks and one forced fumble.

The Toronto native won the Presidents’ Trophy in his final U Sports season with the Mustangs in 2018, which is presented annually to the top defensive player in the country. Other previous winners of the award include Leroy Blugh, Henoc Muamba, and Cory Greenwood.

Sopik was 3DownNation’s No. 13-ranked free agent on day two of free agency.
