The B.C. Lions have added another notable NFL name to the open competition for their running back job, signing American Antonio Williams.
The five-foot-11, 215-pound ball carrier joined the Buffalo Bills as an undrafted free agent in 2020, making his NFL debut in Week 17 of 2020. He led the team with 63 yards rushing and a touchdown in a win over Miami, drawing back into the lineup for their victory over Baltimore in the AFC Divisional Playoffs two weeks later.
The 25-year-old spent the next season on the Bills’ practice roster, before joining the New York Giants for part of the 2022 campaign.
Originally the third-string back at Ohio State behind J.K. Dobbins and Mike Weber, Williams transferred to North Carolina for his final two years of college. He rushed 138 times for 826 yards and eight touchdowns in 22 games as a Tar Heel, adding 18 receptions for 135 yards.
Incumbent Lions running back James Butler has said goodbye to the team in free agency and is expected to sign with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats. Newcomers Gregory “Buddy” Howell, Tavien Feaster and Nate Chavious make up the rest of the running back group.
