The Winnipeg Blue Bombers have signed Canadian linebacker Jesse Briggs to a one-year contract extension. He was scheduled to become a free agent on Tuesday.

The six-foot-one, 207-pound defender played 12 games this past season and made three defensive tackles and four special teams tackles.

The 32-year-old was originally a second-round selection in the 2014 CFL Draft out of McGill University. He has since played 116 regular season games as a member of the Blue Bombers, recording 47 defensive tackles, 66 special teams tackles, one forced fumble, and one touchdown.

The native of Kelowna. B.C. had his best statistical season in 2021 when he made 24 defensive tackles, five special teams tackles, one forced fumble, and one touchdown.

Briggs is Winnipeg’s second-longest-serving member behind defensive tackle Jake Thomas.
