The Saskatchewan Roughriders have signed American defensive back Leon O’Neal Jr., the team announced on Monday.
The six-foot-one, 204-pound defender made 161 total tackles, 10 tackles for loss, one sack, six interceptions, 12 knockdowns, and one fumble recover over 40 career games with the Texas A&M University Aggies (2018-21). He won the Aggies’ Heart Award, the Defensive Attitude Award, and Strength and Conditioning Award as a senior.
The 24-year-old went unselected in the 2022 NFL Draft but signed with the San Francisco 49ers as an undrafted free agent. He was waived by the team partway through training camp.
Offensive players voted O’Neal Jr. as the top player at his in position at the 2022 Senior Bowl, which is the premier showcase game for NFL draft prospects.
