The B.C. Lions are being proactive in keeping one of their top American defensive linemen long-term, signing Woody Baron to an extension that will keep him with the team through the 2024 season.
The six-foot-one, 270-pound defensive tackle had one year remaining on the deal he signed with B.C. last offseason but was unable to maximize the first year of his contract recovered due to a pre-season ankle injury. He would play just the final six regular season games in 2022, recording seven defensive tackles and one sack.
Prior to arriving in Vancouver, Baron spent his first three CFL seasons with the Montreal Alouettes. He amassed 71 defensive tackles, 11 sacks and a forced fumble in 50 regular season games.
The Virginia Tech product recorded 98 combined tackles, nine sacks and a pair of forced fumbles in four collegiate seasons with the Hokies. He attended 2017 training camp with the Dallas Cowboys before making his way north of the border.
